Boise City Background
Boise is the capital and largest city in Idaho. Boise is located in Ada County and is the larger city of the Boise-Nampa metropolitan area. It is the largest city between Portland, Oregon and Salt Lake City, Utah. Some attribute the city's name to the establishment of Fort Boise, but the area was referred to as Boise long before. Boise was incorporated as a city in 1864, and replaced the previous capital city Lewiston as state capital in 1865.
